Michelle Alicia Saram is a beautiful and talented model-singer-actress from Singapore. She was born on December 12, 1974, making her a Saggitarius and a Tiger. Michelle's father is Indian and her mother is Chinese. Because of her acting careers in Hong Kong and Taiwan she created a Chinese name (last name derived from her mother's maiden name) for herself: 鄭 雪 兒 (Zheng Xue Er). She weighs 47 kg (~104 lbs) and is 167 cm (~5'6") tall. Michelle is fluent in Mandarin and can speak Cantonese, but it seems that she prefers to communicate in English (she professes that she still thinks in English).
Michelle went to Katong Convent, Temasek Junior College (she was the top arts student of her year), and Nanyang Technological University where she received her degree of mass communications at the School of Communication Studies. She then went to work at the now-defunct Go Magazine as an intern where she was "discovered" as a model (picked unsuspectingly to appear on the cover of the May 1996 issue) and then signed up with the agency Elite Models. Her first big break came in 1997 when Aaron Kwok picked her to be in his music video that was part of Hong Kong Telecommunication Network's TVC 'One 2 Free' advertising campaign. Michelle then went on to star in the series "Threshold of An Era" with Luis Koo, and had major roles in the movies "Bullets Over Summer" (1999) and "Skyline Cruisers" (2000), where she had to dye her hair orange. In 2000 she released her first Mandarin solo album titled Upfront. In 2001 Michelle was sued by her Taiwanese management company for breach of contract. The case was settled and she was back at it in 2002, now with Artiste Networks (a subsidiary of Hype Records) as her managing agency. She starred in the serial drama "Fantasy" as a blind and talented singer. She then, as most people know, landed the role of Ye Sha in "Meteor Garden II". In 2003 Michelle is has completed production on the drama "Baby Boom" (she plays a working woman). She is completing shooting on "To Mom with Love" (she plays a swimming and diving instructor). In early March of 2004 Michelle will star filiming for a new drama called "City of Sky" where she will co-star with F4 member Ken Zhu. Currently Michelle is the spokesperson for the following endorsements for 2003-2005:
????, Mentholatum Deodorant TV & Print advertisements (Territories : Hongkong & China)
Ellips Facial Foam TV & Print advertisments (Territory : Indonesia)
The Slimming Sanctuary Print advertisements (Territory : Singapore)
???, Tobaby Hair Conditioner (Territory : China)
?? Casual Sports Wear (Territory : China)
A friend of Michelle's describes her as optimistic, adventurous, having an infectious laughter, able to make you comfortable with her beautiful smile, and a good listener. Her fellow actors have also commented on her contagious laughter and praised her for being a true professional who doesn't complain. Also despite widespread criticism of her character in MG2, especially from hardcore Meteor Garden fans, Michelle was diplomatic about all the negative reactions. She was also very gracious when it came to talking about people she's worked with and is often heard in interviews dousing negative rumors about them.
Michelle's favorite activities include reading (she's a very avid reader), scuba diving, and skiing. She's even tried bungie jumping and skydiving! Her dream car is the Porche 911 turbo. Her favorite actors include Angelina Jolie, Edward Norton, Brad Pitt (whom she says is her dream lover), and Cate Blanchett. Some of her favorite movies are "Good Will Hunting", "Elizabeth", "Fight Club", "Trainspotting", and "Lock". Michelle doesn't watch much TV but a TV show she likes is "Sex and the City". She likes the music of Dido, Jamiroquai, Blur, Air, Madonna, Gorillaz, and Dr Dre, and enjoys the genres of pop, R&B, drum n bass, and acid jazz. Michelle's favorite foods include chocolate, watermelon, mango, chicken and rice, fish soup, and ice cream. Favorite type of pet? Cats! Favorite colors? Blue, black, white, and purple. Favorite season? Spring. Her favorite vacation destinations include Bali, London, New York, California, and Australia.
