Michelle has answered a series of interview questions that I sent over to her. I would like to thank Michelle and her manager for being so gracious in taking the time to go through these questions. The answers will certainly shed light on a lot of questions that many members of the site have been asking. Here goes:
David: I heard that you like cats? Do you have cat(s)? I like cats too so I'm
curious :-).
Michelle: i had a cat when i lived in hk but couldn't bring her back with me. i miss
her thoroughly but due to space and family contraints, coupled with the
amount of time i spend away from home, i don't think it's likely i'll get
another anytime soon.
David: What book(s) are you currently reading?
Michelle: just finished i, lucifer by glenn duncan; tiger ladies by sudha koul.
reading wintering by kate moses and baudolino by umberto eco
David: Whose music are you into right now?
Michelle: i listen to a lot of chill lounge,groove-y stuff, light jazz, brit bands...
David: Where can we buy your first album? There is a lot of interest for it from
the fans on the site.
Michelle's manager: David, her first album was done by Sony Music. You may visit their website to enquire about it.
David: What are the projects that you're the most proud of so far in your career?
Michelle: every project is special in its own way because of the shared experience
with the people involved. the time spent together in that intense almost
hothouse atmosphere is unique to its own time and place, and every project
teaches you something about yourself and the world around you, fictionalised
or otherwise.
David: You look beautiful in any hair style but do you have a favorite? Is the
plan to keep the longer hair for now?
Michelle: i've had short and super short hair for a long time now and i love the ease
and convenience of that. never had any motivation to grow it out but there
have been a few requests for a change from various avenues so i thought i'd
give it a shot. rebonding is a godsend -- wouldn't have made it through the
growing out phase otherwise. my hair length/style does depend on project
requirements though so we'll see what the next image person does to it...
David: I read that you like to travel. What is the most beautiful place in the world you've been to?
Michelle: i love to travel and to have the luxury of time to really explore and
experience each new place. haven't been to enough places to pick a most
beautiful spot but i have fond memories of so many places i've visited. have
to say i've a weakness for beach holiday type places so i'm particularly
drawn to those sorts of destinations.
David: Is it true that parts of the script (of Meteor Garden 2) were rewritten due to the fan reaction to Ye Sha?
Michelle: script was finished and filming wrapped before it came out. finished version
is the script as we received it at the start of filming so don't believe the
hype...
David: What was the most difficult part of playing Ye Sha?
Michelle: having to spend over 6 months in taiwan filming was prob one of the toughest
things about this project because it wasn't the easiest place for me to
acclimatise to. also the level of mandarin was much higher than anything i'd
ever done before (even though it's simple for the average taiwanese) given
that i'm not a native speaker.
David: I read that you were the top arts student at Temasek Junior College. Did you actually draw all those pictures in Ye Sha's sketchbook? How about that huge painting of Ye Sha's back?
Michelle: sorry to disappoint but i'm no artist. i was an arts student in terms of the
humanities subjects i studied -- literature, history
Question from firefly: Have you ever felt like an outsider when you were working overseas, and if you do, how did u cope with it?
Michelle: i'm always the outsider but the people i've worked with have always been
very good at making me feel like a welcome guest. as much as it is sometimes
trying to adjust to different cultures, food, language, rhythms, that's also
one of the fun parts of this job. and i've been rather fortunate to have
worked with some gracious people.
Question from chengas: Is it okay for you to have a friend who is a gay or a lesbian?....
Michelle: i have quite a few.
